Jane works with the unusual technique of pit-firing, where ceramics are placed in a large open pit and surrounded by organic material, and a fire is then built over them which reaches over 1000 degrees. This method of firing results in unique colours and patterns becoming infused into the surface of the ceramics. She will be showing visitors a short film of her studio practice and one of her pit-firings, as well as demonstrating her various hand-building methods, many of them acquired during extensive travels in Africa and Asia. She will also be demonstrating the turning and burnishing pots on the wheel prior to firing.
