| Waterperry House is a year-round educational centre hosting residential studies in Philosophy, Economics and the Arts. Waterperry House and Gardens are owned by the Fellowship of the School of Economic Science, an educational charity which organises Art in Action. Most of the volunteers who staff Art in Action attend Philosophy courses at one of the School's many centres in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
Waterperry House is a hybrid of architectural styles. The elegant Queen Anne facade was rebuilt by Sir John Curson in 1713.The village of Waterperry is recorded in the Doomsday Book to 1086.
Waterperry Gardens are open every day of the year apart from between Christmas and New Year and are some of the finest gardens in Oxfordshire. Established by Beatrix Havergal in the 1930’s, the 8 acre ornamental gardens at Waterperry are home to one of the country’s most beautiful purely herbaceous borders, formal knot and rose gardens, spectacular white and lavender wisteria arch, water lily canal, alpine garden and riverside walk.
The plant centre, housed within the ancient walled garden offers plant connoisseurs the chance to buy more unusual varieties of shrubs and herbaceous plants – most grown on site. There’s also a wide range of bedding, herbs and vegetable plants in season, and the garden shop sells a full range of garden sundries, gifts and books.
